Movie Journal (April 2012)

My Movie Journey
(Updated April 1, 2012)

WHAT I'M WATCHING ...

I thought it would be cool, and fun to keep a log (updated the first of every month) of some of the movies I've been watching.

The log will consist of:

1. The last movie I purchased.
2. The last movie I saw in theaters.
3. The last movie I rented. (redbox, paid on demand, blockbuster, and/or other video stores)
4. The last movie I watched via Netflix.
5. The last movie I watched via my personal collection.

So the list will consist of four movies, all in which will be briefly commented on in the "Personal Thoughts" section.

If nothing changes in a month, then nothing will be updated. If, for example, only one changes, then only one will be updated.

Personal Thoughts

1. Most Recent (Purchase): Paranormal Activity 3: Was an entertaining movie (though not quite as good as the first two in my opinion). I definitely liked the unrated directors cut (blu-ray) edition better than I did the theatrical version (it included some of the scenes from the trailer, not seen in the theatrical version).

2. Most Recent (In Theaters): Silent House: As lame as everyone seems to think this movie is (which I'm not debating), it still managed to keep both my wife and I spooked and entertained. Don't get me wrong, it definitely wasn't a great film by any means (probably not even good) but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be (perhaps because I may have set the bar way too low)! It's definitely one of those types of movies where you'll have to wait to the very end to know whether you like it or not.

3. Most Recent (Rental): Quarantine 2: Started off pretty solid, but ended up getting worse as the movie progressed. Nevertheless, I did find it entertaining, though not as good or entertaining as its predecessor.

4. Most Recent (Netflix): The Stuff: Was a pretty cheesy yet entertaining 80's horror movie that had comedy, action, and horror that kind of reminded me a bit of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". It is what it is, not great, but well worth the watch, especially if you're a fan of 80's horror movies.

5. Most Recent (Personal Collection): All the Boys Love Mandy Lane: Can be a tough one to get your hands on if you live in the US, and you're the type of person who likes to watch them before to buy them. The film was never officially released in the United States, which makes it nearly impossible to find on netflix or at the local video stores. Nevertheless, I ended up acquiring it from a friend. It was a longtime coming, but I finally watched it and enjoyed it. Just your everyday typical team scream slasher with a late 90's "who done it" style twist. Not great, but enjoyably entertaining.
