Personal Thoughts

Enter Nowhere, which premiered Thursday October 20, 2011 was apart of the 2011 Screamfest horror film festival, which included 22 feature films and 22 short films.

It stars Katherine Waterston (yes she is Sam Waterston's Daughter), Scott Eastwood (yes he is Clint Eastwood's son), and Sara Paxton (no she isn't related to Bill Paxton).

Some movies give us action, some movies give us gore, some movies give us stalkers with machetes and masks, while other movies give us ghosts. Enter Nowhere didn't quite give us any of these things, but what it does give, it gives rather effectively.

For starters, I think it's important to note that this movie is not a traditional horror movie (it probably shouldn't be considered a horror movie at all). Without blabbing on and saying too much (I hate spoilers) I'll say that I consider it to be more of a well made psychological thriller, one that borrows heavily from some of the concepts presented in shows such as the Twilight Zone or the X-Files.

The Plot: Three strangers arrive one by one to a mysterious cabin in the middle of nowhere after enduring separate life-altering predicaments. Searching for a way out of the woods, frustrated, hungry and battling to stay warm, they discover their mysterious connection and realize what they have to do in order to get out of the woods alive.

What I love most about the aforementioned movie synopsis is that it's exactly all you need to know going into this movie. Enter Nowhere is definitely one of those movies where the less you know when you sit down to watch it, the better off you'll probably be ... well at least that was the case for me. And although some will argue that the film does move at a pacing too slow for most "True Horror Fans", I'll say that I never got bored -- I never lost interest and I remained captivated all the way to the very end.

This movie did a great job keeping me guessing, at the edge of my seat, not knowing what to expect. I ended up re-watching it with a couple friends, and it was funny sitting there quiet, listening to them try to guess what was going on.

Though Enter Nowhere worked for me on many levels, it might not work for you, meaning, if you're planning on watching this movie expecting a true/tradition style horror flick, then you'll probably be greatly disappointed.

In closing, I enjoyed Enter Nowhere, and that's not to say the movie didn't have its plot holes and dull moments. I consider myself a fan of movies that make you think, and this movie did just that, it made me think. If you're interested in a smart, clever, well written, well acted, psychological thriller, then you should definitely give Enter Nowhere a watch, which is why I'm making it;
