Personal Thoughts
"Time is on my side, yes it is." (Kai Winding, Irma Thomas, The Rolling Stones)
You'll probably have this song suck in your head for a while after you watch this movie. Fallen, directed by Gregory Hoblit, is a 1998 supernatural thriller/crime thriller hybrid that attempts to put a different spin on the 90's serial killer genre. In my opinion, not only did it succeed at being interesting and good, it also succeeds at not being your typically run-of-the-mill crime thriller.

If you haven't seen this movie before and are thinking about watching it for the first time, then you should probably do so knowing as little about it as possible. So for the sake of not giving anything away, I've decided to keep this post rather simple and vague (though I'm guessing most people have probably seen this movie now).
My watered down Plot Summary: Homicide detective John Hobbes (Denzel Washington) finds himself in over his head, as he pursues a notorious serial killer. As he desperately tries to make sense of what's going on, he realizes that he's up against one of the worst problems imaginable, one that will forever change his life.
I love crime thrillers (especially 90's serial killer style crime thrillers) and I'm also a fan of Denzel Washington. As I've stated several times before in some of my other reviews, I'm a fan of ambience, atmosphere, suspense and story, and this movie had it all, and did it all very well. The 90's were big on whodunit style movies ... whodunit crime thrillers and whodunit teen slashers ... and Fallen in my opinion takes the whodunit concept to another level.
Fallen is a supernatural thriller/crime thriller that's not really intended to be scary. However, because of it's dark settings, crime scenes, psychological edge and supernatural undertones, it may actually scare some people.
