Scariest Horror Movies of the 2000's

Scariest Horror Movies of the 2000's

Best 2011 Horror Movies |                                                 | Scariest Horror Movie Scenes |

TOO SCARY 2 WATCH now presents a list of 2000's horror films (arranged alphabetically) that we believe are the scariest movies of the past decade, and may be worth checking out, if you love scary movies like we do. The list will continue to be updated and expanded upon as we continue to find more movies that we believe are worthy of adding.

We get a lot of request to create a  "most scariest horror movies of the 2000's" list but have avoided compiling such a list because of the fact that the term "scary" is an extremely subjective one. Different things obviously scare different people -- what scares you may not scare me ... what scares me may not scare you (you get the drill). Some folks are scared of torture, others monsters and zombies, others exorcisms, others ghost or evil men in masks. So I think we can all agree that the odds of creating a list that everyone will agree on is rather low.

Nonetheless, we've given it a shot and done are best to present a versatile list definitely consisting of movies that were disturbing to me

Not all of the movies on the list, in our opinion, are good movies, but were chosen to be included for a variety of different reasons.

Thanks and enjoy!

My Top Ten Scariest Horror Films (Arranged by Year) of the first decade of the 2000's (2000-2009)

Most of us still aren't entirely clear on exactly what the presence was residing in that old mental hospital (ghost, spirit, demon or other), but whatever it was to me, ended up being more disturbing than most physical manifestations could ever be. Session 9 may not scare everyone, but it sure as heck bothered me.

________________________________________________________________________

The Mothman Prophecies is definitely one of the films from the 2000's that creeped me out a bit. It's claims to be based on actual occurrences and true events (and quite a bit of it wasn't too far off from the actual accounts) makes it all the more disturbing.
________________________________________________________________________

Technically, no movie really scares me now that I'm all grown up. I've been watching horror movies for years and I've definitely seen it all! Nonetheless, something about The Ring was disturbing ... and I just can't help but wonder what type of affect a movie like this might have had on me if I saw it when I was a kid (if it came out in the late 80's).
________________________________________________________________________

4. The Grudge (2004)

During the whole ghost "girl with long dark black hair and white dress" frenzy inspired by Asian Horror films, not many movies made more of an impact than the Grudge and/or Ju-on did ... which makes it worthy of my list.
________________________________________________________________________

5. Saw (2004)

Saw is often referred to as one of the grandfathers of torture porn. But the first Saw used other vices and scare tactics as well as torture to terrorize viewers (marionette puppets, pigface masks, the whodunit killer in a raincoat like Seven). When you combine that with a good story and a twist ending, you get the beginning of one of the staple horror franchises of the 2000's.
________________________________________________________________________

6. The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)

I don't consider myself an individual who frightens easily, but one of the best ways to rattle my cage is with a good intense Religious Horror movie. Every so often, one of these types of movies will hit a nerve and leave me all weirded out.
________________________________________________________________________

7. Dead Silence (2007)

Dolls and puppets aren't any of my phobias, but the 2007 movie Dead Silence (from the creators of Saw) in my opinion definitely earns the right to be considered one of the more creepier films of the 2000's. "Beware the stare of Mary Shaw"!
________________________________________________________________________

The 2000's had some pretty good & creepy zombie movies, but the one that makes the cut (in our books) is the found footage style 2007 movie REC. It's dark, it's intense, it's claustrophobic, it's a disaster, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat!
________________________________________________________________________

9. The Fourth Kind (2009)

The Fourth Kind is yet another movie that claims to be based on actual events (which have since been proven to be fabricated) but REAL or NOT doesn't chance the fact that the movie left me disturbed for days. If I had to crown one movie as "The SCARIEST movie of the 2000's", The Fourth Kind would probably get my vote.
________________________________________________________________________

Some will argue it's scary, others will argue it's not scary, I will argue that (like the Blair Witch Project nearly a decade earlier) stirring up enough hype, talk and controversy, qualifies PA1 as one of the most frightening (and talked about) horror movies of the 2000's.
