Synopsis

Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) comes face to face with her greatest fear after returning home to Woodsboro and getting caught in the center of another bloodbath in this sequel from director Wes Craven and screenwriter Kevin Williamson

Touring the country in promotion of her new self-help book, Sidney arrives in Woodsboro and quickly reconnects with her old friend Sheriff Dewey (David Arquette), who has recently gotten married to Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox). Though a much-welcomed family reunion with her aunt Kate (Mary McDonnell) and cousin Jill (Emma Roberts) goes a long way in helping Sidney lay her tragic past to rest, old fears come back with a vengeance when Ghostface reappears on a murderous mission to make up for lost time. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Personal Thoughts

"Hello Sidney"

Ghostface is back, and Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers and Dewey have returned, this time, with an all new slew of potential whodunit suspects, in this next installment of the Scream series.

Scream 4, (directed by Wes Craven, and Starring Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette) is a 2011 American slasher film, and the fourth installment in the Scream film series.

So my wife and I decided to have a date night, which we ending up topping off with Scream 4. It was late, it was dark, and the theaters were absolutely packed. This movie literally followers my definition of a Teen Scream Neo-Slasher to the bone, ranking up there (in my opinion) with some of the best teen slashers on the market ... and it should, seeing as Wes Craven is the one who started it all with Scream 1.

The Plot: Sidney Prescott returns to her home town of Woodsburo to find herself once again the target of a sadistic psychopath. She's grown all too accustom to having to endure the horrors of everyone being killed around her, and now she must find away to do it again, in Scream 4.

I enjoyed Scream 4 just as I hoped I would. But even though I liked it, I will admit that most people (if asked to compare it with other teen slashers) will probably consider it to be the same old same old. Needless to say, we actually had a good time. My wife really enjoyed the beginning of the movie (first 10 minutes or so), and judging by the response of the crowd, a lot of others did as well.

What's interesting is, when the "Screams" first hit the scene back in the 90's, I really didn't care for them much. Back then, I thought the whole teen whodunit slasher trend was overrated, mainly because I felt the films were too unrealistic. Though the latter still holds true, I've definitely started to come around, sort of speak, over the past few years.

Is Scream 4 Scary?

In my opinion, most 90's style teen slashers are more entertainment then they are actually scary. Although it may be scary to some folks, it definitely wasn't scary to me.

Scream 4 accomplishes what teen slashers are suppose to accomplish -- fun, excitement, entertainment, along with some blood and gore for the true slasher fan. Combining humor with horror, mystery with suspense, thriller with slasher, Scream 4 is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat!

If you like teen screams and neo-slashers, then this is definitely worth checking out, which is why I'm making it my next movie recommendation.

Review

What I liked:

- The whole "whodunit" element teen slashers seem to have
- Ghost Face (I like the mask, and I like the voice)
- The music
- The beginning (I thought the beginning was pretty cool)
- The ending

What I didn't like:

- Teen slashers are so ridiculously unrealistic, which I've now come to accept
